Gold Award

The Purple Visa Card offers 1 purple dollar point for every $150 spent wherever Visa is accepted plus you get 12 months interest free for purchases over $250 at participating retailers including the likes of The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationary, Noel Leeming and about 11 other retailers. The Purple Visa card charges an annual fee of $50 plus an establishment fee of $55 for long term finance. It also charges a high interest rate of 26.65% p.a. on purchases and an even higher rate of 29.40% p.a. on cash advances.

It is important to note that the 12 months interest free period only applies to purchases over $250, for purchases below $250 interest is charged immediately at the high rate of 26.65%. Rewards Points Cash Equivalent

$100 spend earns you $0.66

^ To help you compare reward points across different credit cards and rewards programs, we provide an estimate of the cash-equivalent of the reward points that you will get back for every $100 you spend on eligible purchases with your card. The cash equivalent value given is an estimate only based on a specific redemption example. In some cases reward points cannot be redeemed for cash directly. See below to find out how the estimate was calculated.

Points Cash Equivalence Calculation

If 1 Purple Dollar equals $1 NZD when redeemed at participating stores and $150 spend earns you 1 Purple Dollar then $100 spend earns you (100/150) = 0.66 Purple Dollar or $0.66 cash-equivalent when redeemed at participating stores.

What we like about the Purple Visa Credit Card

Rewards Program

The Purple Visa allows you to earn points on every purchase which makes it easy to accumulate points. These points can be redeemed for a variety of rewards, including travel, merchandise, and gift cards. The more you use your card, the more points you accumulate, making it a great option for those who like to get something back from their spending.

12 Months Interest Free

One of the standout features of the Purple Visa is its 12 months interest free on purchases $250 and over at participating retailers (note it has to be at the participating retailers only).

Easy to understand reward system

The Purple Visa also offers a very easy to understand rewards system because 1 Purple dollar point is equivalent to $1 NZD.

Long term finance options available

The Purple Visa allows you access to long term finance offers at participating retailers of up to 60 months interest free.

Drawbacks of the Purple Visa

Annual Fee

One of the main drawbacks of the Purple Visa is its annual fee. While some credit cards offer no annual fees, the Purple Visa requires you to pay a yearly fee. This can be a significant cost, especially if you do not use the card frequently enough to justify the expense.

High Interest Rate

Another downside is the high interest rates. The Purple Visa has relatively high interest rates compared to other credit cards. If you carry a balance from month to month, the interest charges can add up quickly, making it an expensive option for those who do not pay off their balance in full each month.

Not widely Accepted

The Purple Visa is not as widely accepted as some other credit cards. This can be inconvenient if you travel frequently or shop at places that do not accept this card. It is always a good idea to have a backup payment method to avoid any issues when making purchases.

Minimum spend of $250

The Purple Visa credit card requires you to spend at least $250 to qualify for the interest free period. This means if you use your card for small purchases the interest free period would not apply.

Establlisment Fee

If you opt for the long term finance you would need to pay an establishment fee each time you arrange a long term finance.

How the Purple Visa Credit Card works

Earning Purple Dollars

With the Purple Visa Card, you can earn Purple Dollars on eligible Visa transactions. These Purple Dollars can be redeemed at participating retailers, providing you with a flexible and rewarding shopping experience. For every dollar spent, you accumulate points that can be converted into Purple Dollars, making your everyday purchases more valuable.

Interest-Free Financing

The Purple Visa offers 12 months interest-free on Visa purchases of $250 and over at participating retailers. This allows you to manage your finances more effectively by spreading the cost of larger purchases over a year without incurring interest. Additionally, you have the flexibility to apply for long-term interest-free finance at participating retailers, subject to the Purple Visa Card Terms and Conditions. Keep in mind that when the interest free period ends your interest rate goes up to a relatively high rate of 26.65% so you should aim to pay off the balance before the interest free period ends plus you will also need to make minimum repayments during the interest free period.
