The Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card allows you to earn 2x the amount of Onecard points you would earn with the standard Onecard, while at the same time earning AA Smartfuel discounts when you shop at Countdown with your Onecard Visa card. Furthermore, you earn Onecard points if you use your Onecard Visa wherever Visa is accepted. The Countdown Onecard Credit Card charges an annual fee of $65 which is waived for the first year and a purchase rate of 19.99%.

We have done the maths; if you spend $1,000 at Countdown using your Onecard Credit Card for your grocery shopping each month, you could earn $1,080 a year in reward vouchers. You can earn even more points if you use your Onecard Visa Credit Card for other purchases such as paying for your utility bills, petrol, car servicing, clothes etc.

We were pleasantly surprised how much you could earn with the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card. You can easily calculate how much you can earn each month with the Onecard Visa using the Onecard Visa Rewards calculator. We think the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card is a great card especially for families who tend to shop at Countdown and are disciplined enough to pay off the bill at the end of each month.

Notice: The Countdown Onecard Credit Card has been stopped and no applications are being accepted. Wooworths does not have an alternative to this card but you can compare credit card rewards on our website to find the best rewards credit card for you.

What We Like About the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card

Reward Points and Cashback

One of the standout features of the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card is its reward points system. You earn points for every dollar spent, which can be redeemed for discounts on groceries at Countdown stores. Additionally, the card offers cashback options, allowing you to save even more on your everyday purchases.

Low Foreign Transaction Fees

For those who travel frequently, the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card offers low foreign transaction fees. This means you can use your card overseas without worrying about excessive charges, making it a cost-effective option for international travel.

What is Not So Great About the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card

Annual Fees

One downside of the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card is the annual fee. While the rewards and benefits can be appealing, the yearly cost might outweigh these perks for some users. It's essential to consider whether the rewards you earn will offset this fee.

Interest Rates

Another drawback is the high interest rates. If you cannot pay off your balance in full each month, the interest charges can quickly add up, negating any rewards or cashback you might earn. This card is best suited for those who can manage their spending and pay off their balance regularly.

Is the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card Right for Me?

Deciding whether the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card suits your needs involves considering several factors. Here are some key points to help you make an informed decision.

Spending Habits

Evaluate your spending habits. If you frequently shop at Countdown, the reward points and cashback offers can be quite beneficial. However, if your spending is more varied, you might not maximise the card's benefits.

Alternative Options

Explore other credit card options. Compare the Countdown Onecard Visa with other travel credit cards to see which one offers the best benefits for your lifestyle. Look at fee structures, reward programmes, and customer reviews to make a well-rounded decision.

In general, we also recommend comparing all credit cards on our website to help you make an informed decision.

Tips for Maximising Benefits with the Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card

Using Reward Points Effectively

To get the most out of your Countdown Onecard Visa Credit Card, make sure you use your reward points wisely. Focus on redeeming points for items or services that offer the best value. For instance, using points for groceries can be more beneficial than other options. Keep an eye on special promotions that offer extra points or discounts.

Avoiding Interest Charges

Interest charges can quickly add up, reducing the benefits of your credit card. To avoid these charges, always pay your balance in full each month. Setting up automatic payments can help ensure you never miss a due date. If you can't pay the full balance, try to pay more than the minimum amount to reduce interest costs.
