Amex Balance Transfer Credit Cards – American Express Balance Transfer offers

American Express does not offer balance transfer deals in New Zealand and traditionally Amex has been less focused on balance transfer compared to other credit card providers. You can apply to transfer your balance from a different credit card to an existing Amex Credit Card but your application would need to be approved, and if approved, the standard interest rate will apply immediately after the transfer.

Amex Balance Transfer

There are several reasons why Amex does not usually do balance transfer offers which we will touch on in details below but the main reason for this is simply because the Amex financial model is less focused on making money off interest and more focused on marketing money from merchant fees from transactions. This model does not work well for customers with significant credit card debt who should be spending less money and focused on paying off their debt.

You can compare all balance transfer credit cards in NZ on our website to help you find the best balance transfer credit card for you. Some balance transfer credit cards don’t even charge an annual fee and some cards even offer 0 percent balance transfer. To see all American express credit cards in NZ please visit the Amex credit cards page.

Reasons why Amex doesn’t offer Balance transfer deals

Financial Model

American Express operates under a different financial model compared to traditional credit card providers. Amex is less focused on interest from the cardholder and more focused on cardholder spending and the fees. This means they design their product to be more focused on spending to be aligned with their revenue generation model.

Target Market

American Express targets customers who value rewards and premium benefits such as travel benefits and exceptional customer service. The Amex cards are usually positioned as more of a lifestyle product, with features like travel insurance and access to exclusive events and travel lounges, rather than focusing on financial tools like balance transfers.

Company Image

American Express usually offer premium cards with exclusive benefits. They might not want to dilute their premium image with balance transfer offers, which are often associated with lower fee structures and more basic credit cards.

Product Differentiation

Balance transfer offers are commonly found on cards from issuers that focus on providing financial relief and lower interest rates. American Express tends to differentiate itself by offering high-value rewards and benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions about Amex Balance Transfer

Do Amex do balance transfers?

No, Amex does not offer balance transfer deal in New Zealand. You can still apply to transfer your balance from a Non-Amex card to an existing Amex credit card but it would need to be approved and the standard interest rate will apply immediately after the transfer.

No, there are currently no Amex Balance Transfer offers in New Zealand.

Can I transfer my balance from another credit card to my Amex Credit Card?
